Ground Skills & Aerial Support
This course is designed for entry-level tree workers who will be responsible for the clean up, chipping of brush and cutting of firewood and assisting climbers or bucket operators in rigging procedures. Basic knots, hitches and safe work practices will be taught.
Risk Management & Planning
- P.P.E., personal protective equipment, H.O.P.E., hazards, obstacles, plan, equipment
Chain Saw Safety and Operations
- Maintenance, fuel mix, tooth sharpening, proper and safe handling, cutting procedures
Ground Work
- Proper lifting procedures, dragging and stacking brush efficiently
Chipper/Stump Grinder Operations
- Safety and efficiency, brush and wood feeding procedures, stump grinding procedures, basic maintenance, proper hook up, P.P.E.
Communications
- Voice command response, signals for backing up truck and chipper, crane signals
Creating a Safe Working Area
- Cones & safety signage set-up, dealing with or moving obstacles or hazards, traffic and pedestrian handling
Throw Line
- Techniques, setting lines, multiple uses
Rope Work
- Knots and hitches, bends, set-up and use of friction devices, running lines, introduction to understanding rigging
